Dragan Šutanovac (born July 24, 1968, in Belgrade, former Yugoslavia) is a Serbian politician, public official, and diplomat. He graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Belgrade and later specialized in security studies at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany.
He entered politics in 1997 as a member of the Democratic Party and went on to hold several senior positions after democratic changes in Serbia. Šutanovac served as Advisor and later Assistant to the Federal Minister of the Interior, Chairman of the Defense and Security Committee of the National Assembly, Member of Parliament in several terms, and councilor in the Belgrade City Assembly.
In 2007, he was appointed Minister of Defence of Serbia, a role he held until 2012. In September 2016, he was elected President of the Democratic Party, stepping down in 2018 following poor election results in Belgrade.
In January 2025, Dragan Šutanovac was appointed Ambassador of Serbia to the United States, officially assuming office on May 9, 2025. He is known for his pro-European stance and his support for closer cooperation between Serbia and NATO.
Šutanovac is married to Marija, the daughter of popular folk singer Miroslav Ilić, with whom he has two children.
