Paul John Hollywood (born 1 March 1966, Wallasey, Cheshire, England) is an English celebrity chef, television presenter, master baker, and author, widely recognized as a judge on The Great British Bake Off.
Hollywood was born into a family of bakers; his father, John F. Hollywood, ran a bakery business. He initially studied sculpture at the Wallasey School of Art but left before completing his degree to work in the family bakery. Over time, he refined his craft and built a professional career as a baker. He became head baker at several notable hotels in the UK, including The Dorchester, Chester Grosvenor and Spa, and Cliveden Hotel, before moving to Cyprus, where he worked at the Annabelle and Anassa Hotels. His experiences abroad exposed him to traditional Mediterranean baking methods, which influenced his style.
Hollywood’s television career began in the early 2000s, with appearances on culinary shows such as Taste and Carlton Food Network. His breakthrough came in 2010 when he was selected as a judge on The Great British Bake Off, where his direct critique, especially regarding bread-making, made him a prominent figure.
He has remained one of the central personalities of the show, continuing after its 2017 transition from BBC to Channel 4.

Outside of the kitchen, Hollywood has pursued motor racing. Since 2015, he has competed in events such as the Britcar Endurance Championship and the British GT Championship, racing at tracks including Silverstone and Le Mans.
In recognition of his contributions to baking and broadcasting, Hollywood was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2024 New Year Honours.
Personal life
Paul Hollywood met Alexandra in Cyprus, where she was working as a scuba diving instructor. They married in 1998 and had one son, Joshua, born in 2001. The couple separated in 2013, briefly reconciled, but later divorced in 2019.In September 2023, Hollywood married Melissa Spalding, a landlady of a pub in Kent. The wedding took place in Cyprus, and the couple now resides together in Kent, England.
