Daniel A. Dailey (born January 11, 1969, in Palmerton, Pennsylvania) is a retired United States Army Sergeant Major who served as the 15th Sergeant Major of the Army from January 30, 2015, to August 9, 2019. He was the youngest person ever to hold this position, assuming the role at the age of 46.

Dailey enlisted in the Army in 1989 at the age of 17 and completed basic training and Infantry School at Fort Benning, Georgia. Over his career, he served in a variety of leadership positions, from Bradley Fighting Vehicle Commander to Command Sergeant Major. He served in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Infantry Divisions both domestically and overseas, participating in operations such as Desert Storm, Desert Shield, Iraqi Freedom, and New Dawn. In 2008, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Valor for his leadership of the 4th Infantry Division during the battle for Madinat al-Sadr in Iraq.

In 2011, he was appointed Command Sergeant Major of the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command. As Sergeant Major of the Army, Dailey acted as the senior enlisted advisor to the Chief of Staff of the Army, focusing on soldier training, readiness, and quality of life. He traveled extensively, engaging with soldiers and their families, and testified before Congress on matters affecting the enlisted force.

Dailey holds a Bachelor of Science in History, summa cum laude, from Excelsior College. He completed advanced enlisted leadership courses, including Master Gunner training for the Bradley Fighting Vehicle, Unit Commanders’ courses, Keystone Course, and the Command Sergeant Major Academy. His decorations include two Legion of Merit awards, four Bronze Stars with Valor, two Meritorious Service Medals, seven Army Commendation Medals, ten Army Achievement Medals, and numerous other awards.

After retiring in January 2020, Dailey became Vice President for Soldier and Noncommissioned Officer Programs at the Association of the United States Army (AUSA), where he continues to advocate for soldiers and support the enlisted force.
