Dr. Andy Baldwin, Andrew James Baldwin, M.D. (born February 5, 1977, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania) is a U.S. Navy officer, board-certified family physician, Ironman triathlete, humanitarian, and television personality.
He excelled academically and athletically in high school as valedictorian, All-American swimmer, and ESPN’s National Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 1995. Baldwin earned his Bachelor of Science in biology magna cum laude from Duke University in 1999, where he was also a varsity swimmer and Navy ROTC midshipman.
Awarded a Navy Health Professions Scholarship, he earned his M.D. from UCSF in 2003, completed a general surgery internship at Naval Medical Center San Diego, and went on to serve as an Undersea Medical Officer after completing Navy Dive School and Undersea Medical Training.
Baldwin’s humanitarian work spans multiple countries. Notably, he treated over 600 Laotians in remote villages during a military mission, earning inclusion in Outside Magazine’s Top 100 Influential People of the World (2006) and Washington, D.C.’s Most Influential People Under 40 (2009).
A committed endurance athlete, he’s an eight-time Ironman finisher, a member of the All-Navy Triathlon Team, and a three-time USA Triathlon All-American, having competed in international events and marathons.
Dr. Baldwin founded the Got Your Back Network, a nonprofit supporting families of fallen service members. He has also been involved with childhood health initiatives like “Healthy Youth for a Healthy Future” and Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! campaign.
He gained widespread recognition as the star of ABC’s The Bachelor: An Officer and a Gentleman in 2007. His media presence includes interviews on Good Morning America, The View, and contributions to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
