Man recovers $135,000 after being victim of crypto scam

A 78-year-old Barrie man lost $200,000 in an online cryptocurrency investment scam. According to police, the scam began in February of last year, when the victim started talking to someone who contacted him through social media and developed a relationship. Now, despite never meeting in person, police believe the victim say the victim believed that they had a, quote, “true connection.” The scammer, though, then convinced the victim to invest in cryptocurrency, got access to the victim’s accounts, and transferred substantial amounts of money. Police and the victim’s bank have recovered almost $135,000.
