General Douglas Malcolm Fraser, born on April 16, 1953, in Phoenix, Arizona, is a retired four-star general of the United States Air Force. Over a distinguished career spanning four decades, he earned recognition for his leadership in major U.S. military commands and his contributions to global security and defense strategy.
Fraser graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. He later received a Master’s degree in Political Science from Auburn University in 1987. His professional education includes advanced studies at the National War College and Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, where he strengthened his expertise in national security and strategic planning.
Commissioned into the Air Force in 1972, General Fraser built a versatile career that combined operational command with high-level strategic responsibilities. He served in numerous leadership roles, including positions in Europe, Alaska, and the Pacific region, and accumulated over 3,100 flight hours in various aircraft, including fighter jets.
From April 2008 to June 2009, Fraser served as Deputy Commander of the United States Pacific Command. He was later appointed Commander of the United States Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM), where he led U.S. military operations and partnerships across Latin America and the Caribbean.
Throughout his service, General Fraser was honored with multiple awards for excellence and dedication, including the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal, and several other decorations recognizing his commitment to national defense and international cooperation.
After his retirement in 2012, General Fraser continued to be recognized as a respected figure in defense and strategic affairs, contributing his expertise to discussions on global military leadership and international relations.
