Bryan Denny
Have you seen this man before? His photographs are particularly popular with African scammers. If you have seen his photos on social networks or on dating sites, be sure that this is a fake account created by a dangerous Internet scammer with the goal of earning money!
Brian Denny, a retired US Army colonel, never imagined that his own face would become one of the most stolen images on the internet. After serving his country with distinction, Denny found his photos being used by scammers to deceive women worldwide through fake military romance profiles.
The real Bryan Denny is a happily married man living in Virginia. Yet every week, new victims reach out to him – women who believed they were in relationships with him and, in some cases, had sent large sums of money to impostors.
“This is being done on an industrial scale,” Denny told Four Corners. “Over the last two years, I’ve reported more than 3,000 fake Facebook accounts using my photos.”
One victim, Chyrel Muzic from Queensland, Australia, was manipulated for two years and lost $40,000 to a scammer using Denny’s pictures. When the two finally met via Skype, Denny offered heartfelt sympathy: “I wanted to say I’m sorry that this happened to you.”
Now, Denny is actively working to expose and stop romance scammers. Through the group Advocate Against Romance Scams, he campaigns for stronger action from Facebook and U.S. lawmakers to hold platforms accountable for online fraud.
“They offer fake profiles, photos, even scripts – all in plain sight,” he said.

Read more »
